Career Day 2011

TY Danjuma Foundation Career Day Event

The TY Danjuma Foundation’s Income Generation programme, with its grantees and partners hosted a Career Day event for 420 young graduates, NYSC members and aspiring entrepreneurs titled “Charting a Successful Career: Learning from Accomplished Professionals” on 2nd May, 2011. The primary goal of the event was to enhance the Foundation’s grant making for youth entrepreneurship and employability by learning directly from Nigerian youths how philanthropy can contribute to bridging the huge unemployment gap in the country.

Leaders in banking, engineering, government agencies, and the not-for-profit sectors as well as, seasoned entrepreneurs, professionals and academics volunteered their time to lead interactive sessions with participants on how to choose successful careers, survive in the workplace, establish and sustain businesses. The youth centered outcomes from the meeting will inform future TYDF grant making. The Foundation presented a punctuality award of “6 months internship” to Mr. Friday Oronsaye, an NYSC graduate for being the first participant to arrive at the venue.

The partners were: Afterschool Graduate Development Centre (AGDC), Women in Management and Business (WimBiz), Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), Brunel Engineering, Sound Minds Initiative, Leadership Newspaper Group Ltd., Allan Woods, ThistlePraxis Consulting Ltd. (TPC), Enterprise Development Center (EDC), Small Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), and National Directorate of
