TYDF/CAVSI Delivers Eye Care Service at Ehor, Uhunmwode LGA, Edo State

The TY Danjuma Foundation (TYDF) funded eye care support mission executed by Care Vision Support Initiative (CAVSI) has been concluded successfully.

Weeks before the kickoff of the eye care mission at Ehor Primary Health Centre in Uhunmwode Local Government Area, a team comprising CAVSI and TYDF staffs paid an advocacy visit to the Enogie of Ehor.  The Enogie of Ehor received them warmly, welcomed the mission and applauded the Foundation and CAVSI for bringing the project to Ehor Community. He, however, demanded for quality service delivery and high standard of treatment for his people - he had suffered eye care complications previously in a hospital. With assurances of high services delivery promised to the Ehor leader, CAVSI went on a widespread publicity for the eye camp.

On the April 11, 2016 services commenced and lasted till April 15, 2016. At the close of the camp, 880 persons were recorded to have visited the camp. 80 of these people has surgeries performed on them; 62 cataracts, 17 pterygium, and 1 chalazion; 554 persons received eye glasses; and the rest were given drugs.

For two women the intervention was not just only timely but dignity restoring; Mrs. Grace Uzamere, 75 years old had been diagnosed with cataract in her left eye and has lived with it for 30 years. She was elated at the success of the surgery adding that during the operation she began to see objects though not clearly. She was amazed that there was already a difference at that time and after the surgery, she could see very well.

Faith Evbuanmwan, a 35 years old lady who had the case of chalazion - a bump that appears on the eyelid due to a blocked oil gland, said she has had it for at least 3 years and was referred to an Eye Center in Orhionmwon LGA where she was given a bill of N100, 000 which she could not afford. Now everything is all clear.
